BLACK FRIDAY SMART TV BUYING GUIDE

If you are tired of your TV just being your TV, and you want to bring it to life with YouTube video chats, Twitter feeds all on a screen you can actually read. The good news is, your Black Friday TV is about to become an on-ramp to the information superhighway. Internet connected TV is similar to how your computer seeks out the world and brings it back for you. It lets you watch, listen and read. You won’t need your computer as your TV is now going to have apps on it. Applications which let the TV connect directly to the web and will have a PC like brain in it which can run those applications. You can watch sports video on-demand and live updates all at once. Samsung, for example, partnered with Yahoo, to deliver what they call a widget gallery: software icons which sit over what you are watching so you can interact with non-TV services: Twitter, YouTube you name it. Samsung calls it Internet at TV. Their mighty map puts your favourite team¬ís logo icon in a menu document. You click the right arrow on the remote and up comes the team icon, then a graphic overlay which includes the score a summary of the last two games your team played. Your router should have the latest Wi-Fi standard and a wireless keyboard when your TV is connected to the web. This is great for typing Twitter messages or Facebook updates on the couch. Make sure the keyboards range is at least 15 feet. Then there is an external box, something that adds a brain to your TV. If you don’t want another box, consider a wireless pc2tv connector, it plugs into a USB port on a laptop and sends screen images from the laptop to your TV.
